Her career began as a model and actress on television, appearing in television movies Malibu (1983) as well as California Girls (1985). She also appeared in the comedies The Perils of Gwendoline and Bachelor Party (both 1984) along with the film of horror Witchboard (1986). Kitaen has gained a wide recognition for her performances in a variety of music videos featuring heavy metal, including Ratt's (1984) "Back for More" Whitesnake's ("Still of the Night") and Whitesnake's ("Is This Love") (all 1987). In the late 2000s, Kitaen was first seen on reality TV shows like Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) which focused on Kitaen's struggles with substance abuse. Kitaen was born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California in 1961, the third child born to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor) who was a housewife and a once-in-a-lifetime beauty pageant contestant, and Terry Kitaen, an employee of a neon sign company. Kitaen was the daughter of a Russian-Jewish father as well as an Scottish mother. Kitaen was raised Jewish. [4][5] At the age of 12 she began to utilize the nickname "Tawny" She developed on her own initiative.
