
Hanks his next film role was that of an astronaut and commander Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited him again with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics and the performance by the entire cast which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film also received nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was later seen as Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). A year later the director made his debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and fall of a 1960s-era pop group and also a part of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and many critics agree that Hanks' performance earned him a place among the top romantic comedy actors of his generation.
